Paul Twitchell

Paul Twitchell was born in South Central Idaho and moved at an early age with his family to Northern Utah. As a youngster, Paul traveled with his family to lakes, rivers, and high mountain valleys to camp, fish, and hunt. Outside in nature occupied a large portion of Paul’s free time growing up, and a love of the outdoors quickly developed. Paul was always off exploring a new canyon, trying a different fly or lure, or simply studying the habits of elk as cows and calves softly mewed to each other in high mountain meadows. This fascination with nature and interest in photography and painting evolved into the watercolors that Paul paints today.

Paul Twitchell studied art while attending Weber State College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany with an emphasis in Zoology. Watercolor is Paul’s choice of medium. The transparency of the paint combined with the perpetual motion of the medium come together to create vivid representations that reflect serenity and action at the same time. Paul’s attention to detail and mixture of colors, combined with his use of light and natural settings, bring to life the fish and wildlife featured in his artwork. Paul approaches each piece of work from a subject matter perspective, first ensuring that the surroundings enhance the scene in the piece of artwork. Paul’s work is intended to recreate a small piece of nature and provide a medium for people to remember past experiences, dream of future encounters, or simply enjoy the light and colors that are so much a part of his artwork.
